Liz and Nick met in Adelaide on New Year’s Day 2013, and their first date was a fun-filled summer afternoon trip to the Adelaide Hills. One of the stops was for pick your own strawberries and an ice-cream.

Fast forward a few years, and more than a couple of significant life events as a couple, they found themselves looking for land outside of New Plymouth to build a forever home. Being a Geologist, Liz’s number one priority was an unobstructed view of Mount Taranaki. You’ve got to admit, they’ve succeeded in that.

While waiting for the house to build, shelter belts and vegetable gardens were established. The strawberries grown here were incredibly tasty. Even the neighbour admitted to helping himself to them more than once. Liz did her research and as luck would have it, the soil and local weather conditions, despite challenging at times, were favourable. The cold nights and wind in summer help with disease and predatory bugs.

So, in one of life’s funny coincidences, it turns out that Liz and Nick’s first date inspired the creation of Kaimiro Farm, a small and friendly farm where people can slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of eating juicy, ripe strawberries right off the plant or sitting in the sun with a real fruit ice-cream with that incredible view.

They are committed to providing spray-free produce for their community. The joy they get from watching their customers create their own cherished memories is a highlight.

As we continue to grow, we are grateful to all of our support we’ve received from our community. We hope you enjoy the strawberries as much as we do. We can’t wait to see you at the farm!
